Under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR 2000), any pressure system including a compressed air receiver above 250 bar-litres must have a Written Scheme of Examination prepared or reviewed by a competent person, typically a Statutory Engineer at a UKAS-accredited inspection body. The duty holder (employer or self-employed person in control of the system) is legally responsible for ensuring the scheme is followed and that periodic statutory examinations are carried out and documented. Receiver vessels must typically be examined at intervals no longer than every 26 months.
